MPDC League Update

It's well past time for another update regarding the ongoing MPDC League. With the online release of Hour of Devastation next Monday on Magic Online, this will be the final week of Season One of the MPDC League. As has been the case with MPDC for a long time, we will pause the event for one week to allow player's time to purchase the new cards and get familiar with them before resuming the league on Monday, July 17th. Keep an eye on the main page and on my Twitter feed for any additional updates as they happen.

Overall I have been quite pleased with this first season. Going in I had no idea if this would prove to be popular or if the workload would be manageable compared to the time investment of running a six hour event once a week. I'm pleased to say we've had well over 500 matches played in the league since the second week of May, representing 35 different players. While not everyone has played all five matches every week, we've also seen a solid core of players that not only play their maximum number of matches each week, but also contribute by playing extra matches to help out those who haven't reached their maximum yet. Let me extend a big thanks for all of you who have gone the extra mile to help make this event a success!

Starting next season, I will be blogging more about the league metagame and will be adding trophies each week for the first place finisher (similar to how we have in the past). While I'm happy to tackle the trophies myself, if anyone is interested in creating them, please drop me a line (gwyned at gmail dot com) and let me know! I also realized today that we have not been distributing the Door Prizes for each week. At this point I think we will just forego those for this season and start that up for next season. My apologies for the oversight!

If you have any feedback or ways you think we could make the league better, please comment below or feel free to email me (gwyned at gmail dot com). And thanks for your continued support of Standard Pauper!

  1. Thanks so much for running this league! It made it easy to get back into the game after a while away and play casually when I had time or felt like a game or two. Was great to catch up with some old opponents and buddies.

I didn't play nearly as hardcore as I have in the past due to IRL commitments and personal goals, but just knowing that it was a possibility made it cool to get my feet wet. Glad to see some players going all in - just want to put out there that this league is great for folks who just want a game or two as well as those who want to take things to the next level.

You and those players are literally keeping this format alive and there's a lot of very fun decks to play in Standard Pauper, as always. I'm looking forward to the next season and seeing more content about the metagame. Keep up the good work!

  2. Thanks for all your hard work in running this league.
I hope we can finish strong and get ready for the next one.
I otherwise wouldn't have time to play for 6 hours at a pop.
Thanks again to MtgoTraders and Wotc would donated prizes as well as gwyned.

  3. Hey there! I'd love to join the frey for the next season: Is there anything I need to do before? (Also, I tried to join the #MPDC chat but it was empty...I must have done something wrong)

    Cheers!

    1. There isn't anything you need to do to join the league other than have a Standard Pauper deck ready to go. Depending on the time, #MPDC may be empty but that's the best place to look to find matches. Generally you can find players between 2-6pm Eastern time, particularly on Mondays, so that's a good place to start. Most (but not all) of all players are based in Europe, so looking at Europe evening times is probably your best bet.

    2. I'm european, so yeah :P the tournaments are a bit alte since I'm from the west of europe, but it's all cool. I have one or two decks ready so I'll give it a go right after Hour of Devastation :D Great project, btw!

  4. Hey! Not a player myself, but I'm following eagerly and appreciate you efforts for the community :) Could you post an overview for the 1st place finishing decks of the last weeks? The links to the decks of weeks 1-4 were very helpful and it would be great to see the other top finshers as well gathered in one place :) thank you very much, keep up the great work!
